Keynote Speakers:
Herb Schreier, M.D., Chief of Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Oakland, is a renowned author, teacher and expert on NLD and other neurocognitive disorders. Dr. Schreier is a cornerstone of SHARE Support’s and now NLDA's NLD Symposiums. For the fifth year in a row, we are honored to have Dr. Schreier present his new research and give the keynote address Thursday evening.Dr. Sal Severe, author of How To Behave So Your Children Will, Too! is a school psychologist living in Arizona. He has conducted more than 800 workshops across the United States and has become known for his work with schools, churches and parent organizations.
Peter and Pam Wright are the creators and administrators of Wright's Law (www.Wright'slaw.com), the website that deals with Special Ed law. The Wrights are popular on the speaker circuit and have authored a number of publications dealing with this important subject.
Presenters:
Kathy Allen, M.T.S., is a client advocate who has a son with NLD. Kathy has a Masters Degree in pastoral counseling and has written the popular Star-Shaped Pegs, Square Holes for families of and kids with NLD.Shreve Archer, MD, FAAP is a developmental pediatrician and member of the Society for Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics. His practice in Carmel, CA focuses on children with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder and behavior problems. Shreve has worked both at the Mailman Center for Child Development at the University of Miami School of Medicine as well as the Child Development Center at Children's Hospital Oakland.
Kelli Bond is the creator and administrator of the popular NLD-In-Common. She has also written an excellent article and book review for NLDline. Kelli will share her experiences about the working world, employment and NLD.
James Callner, M.A. is founder and president of the Awareness Foundation for OCD & Related Disorders, has earned over 30 awards for writing and directing films about individuals with physical and emotional challenges. He has made two films based on his own experiences with OCD, "The Risk" and "The Touching Tree", winning eight national and international awards including honors from the American Psychiatric Association. His expertise is in educating audiences about OCD recovery through his wisdom, humor, experience, and hope.
Robert Crockett is a senior manager of Cisco Systems. Bob has just moved to California from Singapore with his wife and son. He has been giving presentations on NLD to help others understand this disorder from a parent's perspective.Jacqueline Earle-Cruickshanks, M.S. has been a learning specialist, school psychologist, and educational diagnostician for the past 25 years. She is currently Director of Professional Development at the Stern Center for Language and Learning in Vermont.
Timothy Derning, Ph.D., is a forensic psychologist in private practice. He provides psychological evaluations and LD (learning disability) expert treatment.
Bernadette Evans, Ph.D., is a clinical and school psychologist. She serves as a consultant to a number of school districts and has a private practice in the Berkeley and San Mateo areas where one of her programs includes social skills classes.
Judy S. Freedman, L.C.S.W. is a licensed clinical social worker who has therapeutic and educational experience with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings. As a social worker in an elementary school for fifteen years, she has taken a pro-active approach toward bringing stress education into the classroom. Judy is the author of the program and new book, Easing the Teasing. The book, published by Contemporary Books has an expected date of publication in early spring, 2001.
Meryl Lipton, M.D., Ph.D., is a neurologist and director at the Rush Neurobehavioral Center in Skokie, Illinois, who has a long-standing interest in education and neurology with a particular focus on NLD. She has shared her expertise in pharmocology, an interest to many NLD adults as well as to parents of NLD children.
Marcia Brown Rubinstien, MA, Certified Educational Planner, is an independent educational consultant with expertise in finding appropriate placements for children with special needs. She co-chairs the LD Committee of the Independent Educational Association and is currently spearheading an effort to develop a national advocacy association aimed at educating parents and professionals about NLD. Marcia is also the parent of a 14-year old child with NLD and the President of NLDA.,
Kathryn Stewart, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and Director of Orion Academy, the first California high school of its kind, specializing in the assessment and education of children with neurocognitive difficulties.
Meredith Warshaw MSS, MA is the mother of a twice-exceptional child. She is
co-listowner of GT-Special email list for families with gifted/special needs children and holds degrees in clinical social work and psychology. Her professional work has included a decade of psychiatric research.
Rondalyn V. Whitney, MOT, OTR has a busy practice in the San Jose, California area as an occupational therapist using a sensory integrative approach. She specializes in the treatment of children who have NLD and Aspergers, consults with parents, teachers, and other professionals and leads national workshops and in-service trainings. Rondalyn is also the mother of a 9-year old child with NLD who is succeeding with early intervention. She is the author of two books on NLD and is the First Vice President of NLDA.Michelle Garcia Winner, MA, CCC, is a speech pathologist specializing in social-cognition. She has worked in the field for fifteen years, treating a range of clients in medical and public school settings. She is currently in private practice including direct service, consultation, and is a nationally-acclaimed workshop leader. Michelle has authored a popular book on intervention with social thinking deficits.
