Below is a review of this book:
Current research suggests a growing number of students will be diagnosed with
nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD) in the coming years (Rourke 2000) .
Studies also suggest that without appropriate intervention the prognosis for
adapting and functioning in post-secondary education is poor.
The Post-Secondary Guide to Nonverbal Learning Disabilities will help LD
Advisors:
- understand the impact of nonverbal learning
disabilities on the academic and social success of their students
- recognize the unique symptoms of the
disorder as it relates to brain functioning
- provide accommodations & develop
interventions specific to the unique challenges of their students
- understand the relationship between NLD,
Autism, Aspergers Syndrome and other neurological disorders
- learn to differentiate between the symptoms
of NLD and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD)
- understand how assessment and diagnostic
issues currently facing the field may result in misdiagnosis and/or
underdiagnosis
