: Has anyone had their NLD child in piano lessons? If so, how did it go? My son likes show tunes and current pop stuff (like the music from Cats) but you don’t get that stuff at choir, do you? Anyway, I wondered anyone has tried this with their kids, or any adults, was it possible impossible, too difficult, fun? or frustrating? Thanks in advance.

Kelli, I had piano lessons for a number of years
despite NLD and poor co-ordination. A teacher
I had for about six years, gave me pieces which
were not too fast and did not require perfect co-
ordination. I was not good at sight-reading but
I practised it a lot, as one examiner recom-
mended. I passed the six examinations I sat for.
This teacher was a nun and she discovered I
also had perfect pitch – this facility is probably
due to hydrocephalus in my case.
I hope your son enjoys his lessons and that his
teacher understands his problems. That would
certainly help! Good luck.
