: : Oh I wanted to add – one of the ways my son got diagnosed with NLD was his problem with balance. One of the confusing signs of ADHD vs NLD is that the kid with ADHD can’t sit still because of his hyperactivity, whereas the kid with NLD loses his balance falls out of his chair. We have been bringing my son to a wonderful occupational therapist – things like riding a bike, tying his shoes and even learning balance to sit in a chair – she was very good in finding ways to help my son. Our health insurance also does reimburse somewhat here – I highly recommend this to see if this help with “fidgeting” which maybe poor balance – also her strategies for his dysgraphia has been really helpful
Hi:
: I’m a pharmacist (who has a son with NLD), I am also board certified in psychiatric pharmacy. I am unaware of any drug that works for NLD (I have asked several neurologist, in hopes for my son and have perused the literature quite extensively – nothing to date seems promising). Recently the FDA has fast tracked Secretin for autism – still no data here for NLD. Secretin is actually an enzyme involved with digestion which does seem to be deficient in some children with autism- and pilot reports show some benefit – very interesting stuff – I like to wait for many studies before trying things. I have tried ritalin and adderal for my son – just got side effects though. Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic with many side effects – been used with a lot of psychotic conditions. As mentioned by others – unless really has other psych reasons not sure why he is prescribing?
