My daughter scores on the 99 percentile on standardize tests–reads at a high school or beyond level, but has yet to write anything longer than one or two sentences this year. She does no homework except for math (because the homework is all writing and projects and she can’t do them), she has severe social problems,can be disruptive in class. She also has lots of planning and organizational problems, can’t copy down notes or board notes–so learns everything orally or by reading. So there is plenty of proof that she is not performing academically to her ability and her social problems make every day a major challenge and interfer with her learning. She is so smart people do not see her disability, but not being able to even produce paragraphs on demand makes life tough in an honors class.
This district is seriously out of compliance on many levels and the horror stories go on and on.
