Have you read the book, the explosive child by Ross Greene? Alot of parents swear it has been helpful but of course, your mileage may vary.

As as the meds, I am not medical professional but the drugs you have mentioned are antipsychotics which obviously are not minor league medications. Personally, I would want to know the psychiatrist’s reasoning for prescribing those drugs vs. maybe trying another antidepressant. There may be a very valid reason such as the diagnosis warrants it or there is concern because of your son’s reaction to Paxil that would rule out other antidepressants. But I would ask alot of questions until you were comfortable with the decision no matter which way it went.
